Victor Wanyama, the former captain of Harambee Stars, is facing an uncertain future with CF Montreal as he finds himself on the bench, with a teenager taking his place in recent matches.
Wanyama, once a key player in the team’s midfield, has seen limited playing time since mid-July, with 19-year-old Nathan Saliba becoming the preferred starter. When questioned by reporters about his reduced role, the 32-year-old expressed his disappointment and admitted he didn’t understand the decision.
“I was disappointed. As a player, you want to play more. I didn’t really understand why,” Wanyama said, as quoted by Canadian Soccer Daily. Despite the initial success of the team with the changes, Wanyama sought explanations when the situation worsened but was surprised that the coach couldn’t provide a reason.
Wanyama emphasized the lack of clear communication with the coach, stating, “I think the communication was not clear with the coach… Our opinions didn’t matter.” This raises concerns about the relationship between Wanyama and CF Montreal’s head coach, Hernán Losada, whose future with the MLS club is in question after failing to secure a spot in the playoffs.
The situation not only reflects Wanyama’s personal frustration but also hints at potential communication issues within the team, with a once influential player feeling disconnected from the decision-making process.
