After Meru Members of County Assembly (MCAs) ousted Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Senator Okiya Omtatah from Busia has taken a bold step that could mark Mwangaza’s first victory.
According to Stephen Mutoro, Okiya Omtatah has gone to court to challenge the removal of Kawira Mwangaza. The article suggests that Omtatah aims to have the High Court declare the statute used by county assemblies and the Senate for impeaching governors as unconstitutional.
This move comes after Kawira Mwangaza survived an earlier impeachment attempt several months ago, signalling a potentially significant win for her. The final decision on her fate now rests with the Senate.
In the midst of these developments, Kawira Mwangaza has received messages of support from various figures, including Millicent Omanga, the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, and others.
Allegedly, her removal by the county legislature stemmed from accusations of favoritism and intimidation towards other politicians in Meru.
