Earlier today, alongside EAC Secretary General Dr. Peter Mathuki, we signed an MoU providing a framework to collaborate in promoting food security and nutrition in the region between East Africa Commission and Eastern Africa Parliamentary Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition (EAPA-FSN) in Arusha, Tanzania.

In a significant move toward addressing food security and nutrition challenges in the East African region, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today between the East African Commission and the Eastern Africa Parliamentary Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition (EAPA-FSN). The signing ceremony, which took place in Arusha, Tanzania, was attended by Hon. Adan Haji Yusuf, the Chairperson of EAPA-FSN, and EAC Secretary General Dr. Peter Mathuki.

The MoU establishes a collaborative framework between the two entities, emphasizing the shared commitment to promote food security and nutrition across East Africa. Hon. Adan Haji Yusuf underscored the critical role that parliamentarians play in the fight against hunger and malnutrition. He emphasized that their legislative, budgetary, and oversight responsibilities uniquely position them to elevate the importance of food and nutrition security to the highest levels of the political and legislative agenda.

Acknowledging the multifaceted challenges in achieving food security and nutrition, Hon. Adan Haji Yusuf highlighted the necessity for active participation from parliamentarians. Their engagement, he argued, requires substantial support and coordination in the subregion. The signed MoU serves as a tangible step toward fostering collaboration, aligning efforts, and ensuring a comprehensive approach to addressing food-related issues in East Africa.

As a sitting member of parliament representing Mandera West on the United Democratic Movement (UDM) ticket, Hon. Adan Haji Yusuf’s leadership in the EAPA-FSN signals a commitment to leveraging legislative influence for positive change in the crucial domains of food security and nutrition. This collaborative initiative aims to harness the collective strength of parliamentary leaders to drive impactful policies and interventions for the benefit of the entire East African community.
